Area Director The Area Director is responsible for the day-to-day management and administration for one of four residential areas of campus with 400-550 residents, accomplished through the supervision of 7-12 Resident Advisors (RAs) and Head RAs. The Area Director seeks to provide a safe and secure living and learning community that complements the educational mission of the University and contributes to individual and interpersonal growth and development of students outside the classroom. The Area Director is an exempt, full-time, live-in professional staff member for Residence Life in the Division of Student Affairs and participates in a weekly on-call rotation for emergency response after hours and on weekends throughout the year. The position requires flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, particularly during peak times of the year such as staff selection and training and the opening and closing of the residential areas and graduation. There is a 3 year term limit for the Area Director position, with an optional 4th year, pending approval by the Area Director�s supervisor. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Managing general business operations for the area. Maintain inventory of furnishings and equipment for the area; makes recommendations for improvement. Audit and maintain Room Condition Records; conducts damage assessment for student billing; manages Hall Council and RA programming budgets in the area. Participates in the ongoing recruitment, selection, training, development and evaluation of Residence Life staff. Researches, plans and presents workshops for staff training and in-service programs. Trains and mentors RAs. Provides informal counseling, mediation and conflict resolution. Holds students accountable to the Resident Student Housing Agreement and Student Code of Conduct. Oversees advising of Hall Council(s) in the area. Attends meetings, monitors budgets, and promotes collaborative programming and appropriate governance issues. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES: Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; mediation and conflict resolution skills. Program planning, facilitation and presentation skills. Self-motivation, organization and effective time management. Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn and adapt to enterprise software. Ability to work autonomously and as a team member. Sensitivity, understanding and appreciation for diversity and multicultural issues. A Bachelor�s degree with direct experience and demonstrated leadership in university housing or residence life is required; Master�s degree preferred.
